Welcome to IADS: The Blog, the official blog for IADS: The Game -- a tabletop experience rooted in real-world air defense strategy!
We're Ric and Madonna, the creators of the game. After years of play-testing and discussing air defense with our friends, we are proud to announce the completion of our first large-scale production run! Hooray!
In this blog, we'll cover:
š°ļø Military Engagements as IADS: The Game
We aim to delve into military engagements through the lens of our game! One of our core ideas was to bring the fundamentals of air warfare to a basic level. We describe the primary roles of military weapon systems. As the game has evolved, we've incorporated our joint force and many advanced capabilities. Our goal is to showcase how our game illustrates the roles, missions, and functions of military hardware to fellow warfare enthusiasts.
š² Board Game Events and Community Spotlights
Spending time with our board game friends and attending major gaming events has been a joy. We want to document the conventions and events that host us, giving back to the board game community for their warm welcome.
Many conversations in our community focus on board game development, testing, and publication. While we may not have taken a conventional route, we want to share the limited knowledge we've gained here. This space serves as a record of our journey for future board game developers.
š Updates and Announcements
Weāll keep you updated on where to find IADS: The Game in stores. We'll also share info about upcoming demos and events we will attend, especially around the Washington, D.C., area. If you're nearby, we'd love to meet you in person and roll some dice together.
Whether you're in uniform or simply love strategy games with depth, weāre glad youāre here. IADS: The Game emphasizes decisions, timing, and understanding the battlespaceāboth on the board and in the world. Let's connect and enjoy our passion for aviation.
š¤ Join Our Community
We invite you to engage with us and other enthusiasts. Playing games not only provides entertainment but also fosters social connections. Our community welcomes everyone, whether you are experienced or just starting your gaming journey.
We believe that sharing experiences enhances our enjoyment of the game. If youāve played recently, donāt hesitate to let us know your thoughts. Your feedback is valuable!
Stay tuned for more updates! We have exciting plans in store, including interviews with other game designers and insights into the creative process.

@rene, Thanks! And first comment! š
It's cool -- there are actually copies of IADS: The Game at a few USAF fighter units. When we first started developing it, one of our early goals was to capture some of the culture and humor thatās unique to those squadrons.
A few drinking game house rules weāve experimented with:
TabsĀ = +1 Hardpoint on any unit (adds 1x missile token)
Bottle capsĀ = +1 Defense to any unit
ShotsĀ = Your HQ now requires an extra hit to be destroyed š
These modifications can be made in response to actions in the battlespace -- I think players could get drunk pretty quickly, lol.
Madonna and I arenāt big drinkers, and most of the board gameā¦
⦠excellent application of imagination, strategy, and fun! Beer is an optional artifact.
